In the first npower Energy Challenge in 2007, we asked teams of undergraduates what we should do to plug the impending energy gap. An increasing demand for power, and the closure of existing coal, oil and nuclear plants, means there is an urgent need to meet a predicted energy shortfall by 2025. The problem may be obvious, but the answer definitely isn’t.
